Some of the best restaurants in the area quietly reside in SacTown's own backyard. The town of Plymouth is an easygoing and picturesque 45 minute drive to gold country... and also in the middle of some of the best wine country in California. Once you get there, you will experience that "Mainstreet U.S.A" feel and Taste Restaurant is smack dab in the middle of Main Street in this quiet little town.
From regional press and local foodie blogs to the New York Times, Taste continues to garner praise from the best critics in fine dining. Wine Spectator recognized Taste with an Award of Excellence for it's wine program. More impressively, ZAGAT rated Taste as the top restaurant in the Sacramento Region and as one of the top restaurants in America. Locally, Sacramento Magazine Editors select the "Mushroom Cigars" at Taste as the Best Appetizer in the Sacramento region.
We started our dinner with their famous Mushroom Cigars... and how could we not? They did not disappoint. A beautiful creation of crimini, shiitake, and oyster mushrooms, fresh herbs and goat cheese all wrapped in a delicate phyllo pastry. You can't go to Taste and not order this playfully tasty appetizer.
My wife and I then ordered the Creekstone Farms Filet Mignon and the Day Boat Sea Scallops. We shared with each other to get that Surf and Turf satisfaction... what a great choice! The Filet Mignon melted in your mouth and the potato “dauphinoise”, charred King Richard leeks, smoked paprika oil, horseradish cream completed the meal to perfection.

The Day Boat Sea Scallops, truffled polenta cake, asparagus, parmesan cream, and saba vinegar exceeded our expectations, and our expectations were high. The problem is that these sea scallops were so good, I'm sure that scallops from here on out at other restaurants will fall short of the bar that Taste has set.
It was my birthday, so I could not leave without a treat. We finished our wonderful dining experience with the Crème Brulee Trio that included a classic vanilla bean, a caramel sea salt, and a chocolate selection... all divine!
